Mutual of Omaha is looking for a detail oriented Disability Income Benefit Claims Specialist with strong attention to detail and critical thinking. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle of disability claims, and ensures timely, accurate decisions from initial notification through claim resolution. It combines analytical evaluation, regulatory compliance, and clear communication to deliver an exceptional customer experience. Key duties include benefits eligibility assessment, contract interpretation, fraud awareness, and coordination with medical professionals and employers. The position plays a critical role in customer retention and financial outcomes for Individual Claims.

  • Hourly Wage: $22.75 - $26.00, plus annual bonus opportunity.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Partners with management to make informed decisions throughout the life of the claim, ensuring actions align with policy provisions and documented procedures.  
  • Maintains professional and timely communication with claimants, employers, brokers, sales teams, and medical professionals to support customer satisfaction and claim clarity. 
  • Accurately documents all actions and adheres to ERISA, federal/state laws, and internal guidelines to ensure transparency and compliance.  
  • Evaluates financial liability and eligibility using salary, contract terms, and supporting documentation to approve or adjust benefits. 
  • Stays current on industry regulations, internal process updates, and customer-specific needs, demonstrating flexibility and professionalism.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Disability Claims processing skills/experience. 
  • Demonstrates basic understanding of insurance contracts, medical terminology, and applicable regulations, with growing analytical and critical thinking skills.  
  • Provides solid verbal and written communication to ensure a positive customer experience and effectively diffuse challenging situations.   
  • PC software (Word, Excel) and company systems (e.g., Fineos) for data entry, reporting, and claims management.   
  • Shows attention to detail, meets deadlines, and works with increasing independence while managing claims accurately and consistently.   
  • Adapts to changing environments, maintains regular attendance, and treats claims fairly to support financial accuracy and customer retention. 
  • You promote a culture of diversity and inclusion, value different ideas and opinions, and listen courageously, remaining curious in all that you do.   
  • Able to work remotely with access to a high-speed internet connection and located in the United States or Puerto Rico.

  • Disability Income Claims Processing skills/experience
  • College degree or equivalent industry experience
